Common Problems and Solutions for Slack Adjusters
Content
Symptom: Push rod travel increases, and the marking on the nut is misaligned.
Solution: Re-adjust, then tighten with a torque wrench and re-mark the line.
Symptom: Hex wrench slips during adjustment, unable to fix the clearance.
Solution: Replace the entire adjuster (welding repair is prohibited).
Symptom: Slacks do not return after a long downhill, and the wheel hub is hot.
Prevention: Avoid tightening before downhill, maintain standard cold clearance.
Symptom: No "click" sound is heard when releasing the Slack.
Solution: Apply special lubricant to the reset hole; replace if ineffective.
Symptom: Slack pad thickness is normal, but the push rod travel is too short (Slack drag).
Cause: Incorrect reset operation or internal spring failure.
Symptom: Traces of mud and sand seeping out of the housing.
Consequence: Accelerated wear of internal parts.
Symptom: Push rod wobbles accompanied by a "clunking" sound.
Inspection: Shake the push rod by hand; replace if the clearance is >2mm.
Symptom: Adjuster cannot be separated from the S-camshaft.
Solution: Heat with a heat gun and apply rust remover.
